The highly-awaited second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel arrives on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been rampant.
Season 1 presents a diverse group of characters living within the afterlife, pits them against each other with musical numbers about their clashes, and builds heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel fan obsession.
The community's expectations for season 2 differ greatly, but certain threads recur frequently: Will Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the creator stated recently. "But I feel like me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season moves, and how much of what they're waiting for happens this season.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some really amazing reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a couple people make a prediction grid about season 2," she mentions. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on Prime Video on October 29.
